The Anchor Practice

Our Story

The Anchor Practice was founded in 2019 with a single purpose at its heart - to provide high quality, evidence-based psychotherapy of depth for children, adolescents and adults, offered by highly-trained mental health professionals.

We founded The Anchor Practice as two NHS mental health clinicians who had experienced the benefits that psychodynamic and other specialised approaches could bring to understanding mental health but who saw the decline of the provision of depth therapies within NHS services.

From the outset, we have prioritised the quality of services the practice offers over business growth, and we are proud to have carefully built a team of highly trained clinicians who share a commitment to and skill in working with the complexities of mental wellbeing rather than looking for quick fixes. We are proud to be a team of clinicians with varied active NHS and academic roles and experience.

At The Anchor Practice, we have always prioritised experience and depth of training when inviting clinicians to join our team.

On average, our clinicians hold a minimum of 10 years experience within the NHS or public sector before joining the practice, and most hold doctoral level qualifications (or equivalent), and offer well-researched, evidence based interventions for a wide variety of issues. Many of our clinicians also teach and supervise doctoral students across a range of clinical trainings.

Training and working in the NHS has also made us aware of the lack of access to mental health support many face and this is why as a practice we have from the outset ring fenced spaces for low fee and pro bono work within the team, as well as working with third sector, charitable and local authority organisations to provide services for a wide range of purposes.

"Our ethos has always been to provide treatments that are firmly rooted in depth-oriented psychotherapy, and are supported by a wealth of empirical data. Our clinicians have the experience and training to understand the psychological difficulties that can be faced by both children and adults, and are able to select and provide treatments that offer lasting results."
