She has over 10 years’ experience working in the NHS in inpatient, specialist, and community CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) in Art Psychotherapy and generic mental health roles. She has set up and led Arts Psychotherapy (Art, Music, Dance and Drama) services in CAMHS in England and Scotland, developing accessible psychological interventions focused on resilience building and inclusion. Alongside her private work, Molly continues to lead the Arts Psychotherapy service for children and young people for an NHS Health Board as well as being a team lead and clinical specialist in a Community CAMHS.

As an Art Psychotherapist, Molly understands that an interactive and playful use of the arts allows opportunities to connect, explore new ways of relating and communicating, and develop the ability to think about thinking (mentalisation). In times of acute distress, we are least likely to find the right words for our thoughts and feelings. Using the art form provides a valuable tool for connection and communication. Young people find that art making in a therapeutic setting helps put them at ease, building the therapeutic relationship and reducing the intensity of the sessions.

Motivated by her work with children and young people with relational trauma and attachment disruptions Molly has gone on to train further in a number of evidenced based therapeutic models with a focus on relational repair. These include Mentalisation Based Treatment (MBT) at the Anna Freud Centre and trauma informed Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (level one). Molly recognises the therapeutic relationship as the primary driver of change. She works in a collaborative way, focusing on the here and now, tailoring goals and pace of treatment to the young person and family’s needs. This may include directive or non-directive interventions. Young people (and their network) will be equipped with resources, psychoeducation, and new skills and techniques including alternative ways of communicating their experience. Depending on the age of the child and where appropriate, the parents/carers will be actively involved in the work and or reviews.

Molly works with children and young people of all ages and offers: Focused Arts Psychotherapy Treatment / Formulations (6-10 Sessions), Arts Psychotherapy Treatment (24 session – review every 6 sessions) and Mentalization Based Arts Therapy treatment / MBT-A (Mentalisation Based Treatment for Adolescents).
